Anyone who wants to get married in the Palatinate has questions at the beginning: How much does it cost, when is the best time, where does the ceremony take place and what happens in the rain? Here we answer the 45 most important questions about getting married in the Palatinate. Each answer begins with a brief summary, followed by details. The figures and experiences come from over 300 weddings we have photographed and recorded. Janson Castle in Bockenheim on the Weinstraße accompanied.
Why is getting married in the Palatinate so popular?
The Palatinate is one of the warmest regions in Germany and combines vineyards, historical sites and excellent cuisine. Along the approximately 85-kilometer-long German Wine Route, wine and cuisine are an integral part of the celebration. For guests, the wedding quickly turns into a short getaway.
The German Wine Route runs from Bockenheim in the north to the French border, passing by almond groves, wine villages, historic houses and old manor houses. The mild climate makes celebrating outdoors relatively easy to plan, and many wineries offer their own wines from the starter menu to the main course. The region also feels real rather than staged: there are no designated photo spots and no waiting line for selfies. Your guests will happily stay for a day or two, perhaps for wine tastings, walks or a trip to Deidesheim, Neustadt or Bad Dürkheim.
Is it possible to get married outdoors in the Palatinate?
Yes. The Palatinate is one of the warmest regions in Germany; outdoor weddings and receptions are often possible until autumn. In March and April, temperatures range from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius, and in October, they are 12 to 18 degrees Celsius during the day. However, an indoor alternative is always included.
In the height of summer, it’s more likely to be the heat that’s the issue. The midday sun can become a strain, and even on hot days thunderstorms can occur. However, sunshades, shady areas under old trees, lightweight seating cushions and chilled drinks are all helpful at the moment of arrival. In spring and autumn, it cools noticeably in the evenings; then you’ll need blankets, heaters or fire pits. A simple pattern has proven effective: the wedding and reception take place outdoors during the warm hours, the evening celebration inside.
When is the best time of year for a wedding in the Palatinate?
The classic wedding season in the Palatinate runs from late May to early September, with long days and warm evenings. Those who are flexible will find more free dates and lower prices in spring, October, and winter. Which season is best depends on how you want to celebrate.
Summer allows for parties outdoors until late into the night. For that, Saturdays are booked long in advance, and you need a plan for heat and thunderstorms. Spring brings soft light, fresh greenery, and the almond blossom; October golden light and colorful vineyards. In winter, everything takes place indoors, making celebrations closer and more personal. Honestly, ask yourself whether a specific date is important to you or the overall feel of your wedding. Those who remain flexible regarding the date have more freedom to plan for the Marriage in the Palatinate Clearly more choice and often more leeway when it comes to budget.
Is a wedding in the Palatinate in March or April worth it?
Yes. In March and April, temperatures in the Palatinate region are between 10 and 18 degrees Celsius; demand is low, and locations are on average around 20 euros per person cheaper than from May onwards. In April, almond and cherry blossom season also arrives, which lasts only a few weeks.
For 80 guests, the price difference amounts to about 1,600 euros. There are often several dates to choose from, and photographers, speakers, and musicians are more flexible than during the high season. The light is softer than in midsummer, everything is fresh and green, and summer problems such as mosquitoes, burnt grass, or wilted flowers are absent. March is fresher and quieter, and April brings more stable temperatures and more blooms. If you plan the evening celebration indoors and book approximately a year in advance, more about this can be found in the article on Spring wedding.
Is it still possible to get married outdoors in the Pfalz in October?
Yes, during the day in October in the Palatinate, temperatures are usually between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius. The wedding ceremony and the reception take place outdoors in the early afternoon, while the party takes place indoors. A guideline for outdoor areas is one heating radiator per 10 to 15 square meters.
October has tangible advantages. The sun sinking low in the sky lights up the vineyards in golden light, the vines glow red and yellow, hair and makeup hold, and no one sweats in a suit. Because it gets cool quickly in the evening, blankets or scarves, an over-the-top plan B, and enough light are part of the planning. Ask your guests to bring a jacket in the invitation. While June to August are sometimes booked two years in advance, there are often still six to nine months before free dates in October. Details are in the post on Autumn wedding in the Palatinate.

Is it possible to get married while harvesting grapes on a vineyard?
Yes, but it is the busiest time of the year. The wine harvest in the Palatinate usually runs from mid-September to early October, then there is a rush of activity on the vineyards. October immediately after that is more relaxed.
While the harvest is underway, the harvesting vehicles are on the road, and the team at a winery is working hard. At the same time, the wine route is showing its most authentic side these weeks, with regional wines and seasonal cuisine. If you weigh both options, you often end up in October. The harvest is then complete, the vineyards are quiet for the couple photoshoot, and there is often already new white wine available that can easily be integrated as a small program item.
Is it possible to get married in the Pfalz even in winter?
Yes, if the venue has heated and interconnected rooms. Winter weddings at Schloss Janson work best with small to medium-sized groups; the Kelterhaus accommodates weddings of up to about 70 people. The winter season is significantly cheaper than the peak season.
A winter wedding is not a last resort, but a different kind of celebration. Everything takes place indoors in a concentrated way; everyone is at the same place at the same time. The most common mistake is to replicate the flow of a summer wedding, for example by having the wedding outside and having guests frozen in the reception. It is better to have short, focused outdoor moments like a fire pit, a mulled wine bar, or photos at the blue hour. Light is more important than decorations. As an example: 70 people in December cost us about 10,000 euros for the venue. More about this in the post on Winter wedding.
Is it worth getting married on a Friday instead of a Saturday?
Yes. Fridays, Thursdays and Sundays are often still available at wedding venues in the Pfalz, when Saturdays are already booked out, and sometimes even cheaper. The celebration is just as festive.
The Saturdays between May and September are the most in demand and are often booked a year and a half to two years in advance. At Schloss Janson, for example, the Saturdays from May to September 2027 are already booked out; you can still request Fridays and weekday dates (as of September 2026). A Friday also works well for a wedding weekend, as many couples get married on Fridays and celebrate the civil ceremony on Saturdays. Inform your guests early via Save-the-Date, then everyone can plan the day.
How early should you book a wedding location in the Palatinate?
For a Saturday between May and September, you should plan at least one and a half to two years in advance; otherwise, it will be 12 to 18 months. In the spring, for example, a year is enough; in October, there are often still six to nine months before appointments become available. The best time to request a date is October or November.
At the beginning of the year, most inquiries come from locations. If you contact them already in October or November and sign the contract by December, you will be ahead of this wave, assuming the celebration is to take place in about a year and a half. In winter, demand is at its lowest, and then something can be arranged more quickly. In addition to the location, think about the service providers. Free speakers, musicians, and photographers are also booked out early during the high season, and accommodations on the Wine Road fill up quickly.
What does a wedding in the Palatinate cost?
A small wedding in the Palatinate with 20 to 40 guests costs approximately 8,000 to 12,000 euros, a classic celebration with 60 to 90 guests 15,000 to 25,000 euros. High-end weddings cost 25,000 to 40,000 euros and more, and an entire wedding weekend at 40,000 to 50,000 euros or more.
Most couples who celebrate at Schloss Janson invest a total of 20,000 to 35,000 euros. The venue is only one part of the cost. Catering, drinks, music, photography, decoration, stationery and other services must also be factored in. Just for decorations, flowers, photography and music, you should set aside at least 5,000 to 10,000 euros. How much it ultimately costs depends on the number of guests, the season, the day of the week and your priorities. Plan for a buffer for the unexpected. There is no one-size-fits-all recommendation; your wishes and budget must match each other.
How much does a wedding at a winery cost per person?
At a winery, there is usually not a single rental price, but rather a set fee per person. At Schloss Janson, the guest package costs about 119 to 159 euros per adult and 59 to 85 euros for children aged 6 to 15 years. This is in addition to a beverage package of about 21 to 36 euros per person and the separately calculated catering.
The guest package depends on the package and season. The drink package covers wine, sparkling wine and beer, and in extended packages it also includes cocktails, long drinks and coffee specialties. The catering is calculated separately because choosing between a menu, a buffet or live cooking significantly changes the price. All figures are approximate and may change. Our advice: Do not compare individual prices; instead, check how well location, cuisine, service and atmosphere all fit together. Our full cost breakdown is explained in our Basic contribution to the wine estate wedding in the Palatinate.
What is included in the price of a wedding location and what does it cost extra?
This varies from location to location and is one of the most important questions when visiting a venue. At Schloss Janson, the guest package includes exclusive use of the entire venue, furniture, tableware, glasses, service staff, and non-alcoholic beverages. There are also extra costs for catering, alcoholic beverages, and optional services.
Optional services include free wedding ceremonies as an additional service for about 500 euros, a cellar tour for about 120 euros, cake service for about 4.50 euros per person, and the guest house for about 1,350 euros for two nights. Decorations, flowers, photography, music, and stationery are included regardless of the location. Ask explicitly about minimum spend and hidden additional costs at each viewing. Also clarify whether you have the venue exclusively or whether other events are running in parallel.
Is a wedding cheaper in the off-season?
As a rule, yes. In March and April, you pay on average about 20 euros per person less than from May onwards. In winter, the price is significantly lower than during the high season. In October, off-season prices are often applied for locations, catering, photographers, and florists.
The reason is lower demand, not a discount promotion. An example from us: 70 people in December cost about 10,000 euros for the venue; the same day would be noticeably more expensive in the summer. However, if you factor in additional costs in the fall, such as additional heaters, curtains, tents with side walls, and stronger lighting, the bottom line is that the off-season is usually cheaper. The money saved can be redirected in targeted ways, for example into better food, a lighting concept, a good photographer, or a wedding planner.
How can you save money at the wedding without cutting corners?
The most cost-effective time of year to save money is the off-season, rather than the peak summer months. Fridays or Sundays instead of Saturdays. After that, seasonal flowers, rented decorations instead of purchased ones, and a clear budget are all things that can help save money already during the inquiry process. Making things yourself isn’t automatically cheaper.
Seasonal flowers cost significantly less than imported exotic plants, and in a wine landscape, nature takes on part of the decoration. You can rent candle holders, vases, and fabrics; then storage and resale are eliminated. On DIY projects, however, purchases, mispurchases, delivery times, and short-term replacements add up. If you specify the budget right from the start, you’ll get more honest and appropriate feedback. Also, during a wedding weekend, you should clarify early who is responsible for what costs.
How do you find the right wedding location in the Palatinate?
Who is going to Marriage in the Palatinate When looking for the right location, you should first clarify four things: a realistic budget, the approximate number of guests, flexibility regarding the date, and a rough idea of the event. Exactly these four details should also be included in any inquiry. After that, visit only a few truly suitable locations.
In the Palatinate, the selection of wineries, castles, manor houses, and farmhouses extends to barns and event venues. The objectively most beautiful location is not automatically the right one; what is sought is the location that suits you. Budget is most often overlooked in requests, but it helps both parties the most. If the visits are scheduled closely together, the last one automatically seems the freshest. Be aware of whether the answers are open or evasive, and eventually decide; waiting for an even better option only makes it more difficult. More on this in the post Finding the right wedding location.

What questions should one ask during the inspection of a wedding location?
The most important questions when visiting a wedding venue are capacity, price, exclusivity, catering, and the plan in case of bad weather. Specifically ask: how many guests can really fit in our seating arrangement, what is included in the price, and what costs extra?
Another item on our list with 16 questions: Are there minimum spend requirements? Are there other events taking place at the same time? Is there a volume limiter, and until when can you celebrate? Are there enough parking spaces and accommodation options nearby? Are service providers pre-determined, or can you bring your own? Who is your contact person for planning and on the wedding day? How much time is left for setup, decoration, and cleanup? Which areas are off-limits to guests, where do the band, DJ, and photographer prepare, and are the power outlets available? Finally, ask about your experience with weddings of a similar size.
Who is a wedding at a winery suitable for and who is not?
A wedding at the winery is perfect for couples who prioritize enjoyment, good food, and a stylish, nature-friendly celebration. It is less suitable for couples who want to design everything to their own liking or want to implement many DIY-style elements.
A winery is not a neutral space, but a running, often family-run business with its own concept, style, and wines. Vines, seasons, and harvest determine the rhythm. Those who celebrate here build on this character rather than trying to cover it up. This means strict rules regarding drinks and usually also catering, but plenty of leeway regarding decoration and flow. The atmosphere is reminiscent of Tuscany, so high-quality and well-thought-out, but light and relaxed. You don’t need any knowledge of wine to enjoy it.
Is it allowed to bring your own drinks or a private caterer?
It is generally not possible to bring your own drinks to a winery; the wines, ciders and juices are provided by the house. Many wineries, including Schloss Janson, use fixed partners who know the kitchen and the procedures.
Wine is the heart of a winery, and the food should match the wines and the philosophy of the house. Experienced catering partners know where the dishes are prepared, how the routes work, and how the service collaborates with the on-site team. Therefore, bringing too many own service providers is one of the typical planning mistakes. If a specific request is important to you, discuss it right from the first conversation. You have plenty of leeway when it comes to decoration and execution.
How long can you celebrate at a wedding in the Palatinate?
It depends on the location. At Schloss Janson, you can currently celebrate until about 3 a.m., but in many other locations in the Palatinate, the celebration ends much earlier. Therefore, the celebrant should clarify this when they visit the location.
In addition to the time, ask if there are any volume limits or other restrictions for music. Both of these factors determine whether your band or DJ can play the way you envision it. At us, the first dance follows on the Kelterhaus terrace, and the party continues until the end. If you are staying overnight, you don’t have to worry about getting home. This applies to the guest house on the grounds as well as the accommodations in the surrounding area.
What mistakes should one avoid when planning a winery wedding?
The most common mistakes in a winery wedding: treating the winery as a neutral event location, not understanding the cost structure until late, and pacing the event too tightly. To top it off, considering the weather only as a plan B instead of planning several scenarios from the beginning.
We regularly see four other mistakes. First, couples bring too many own service providers, especially for drinks and catering. Second, they don’t take advantage of the character of the place and skip wine tasting, cellar tours, or a final gathering. Third, they underestimate the dynamics of the guests, because groups easily get lost in several areas. Fourth, they start with expectations from social media. A wedding is made up of many small situations, not individual shots, and its atmosphere is created in the transitions between the program’s segments.
Do you need a wedding planner for the wedding?
A Wedding planner It is not mandatory, but it noticeably relieves stress. It helps set priorities, saves time when searching for locations, and keeps structure, coordination, and costs in mind. It is particularly useful during winter weddings and multi-day celebrations.
Anyone who wants to celebrate on a high level without stress has to take some responsibility, and that takes trust. Whether this role is taken on by a planner or a venue that takes a lot of the work off your hands is a matter of budget and expectations. Schloss Janson sees itself as a full-service venue and recommends, upon request, tried-and-tested service providers who are familiar with the local circumstances. A tip from practice: If you get married during the off-season, you can put some of the money you saved into professional planning.
What are the most beautiful registry offices in the Palatinate?
Some of the most beautiful places for a civil wedding in the Palatinate include the Dorfmühle in Großkarlbach, the Sturmfeder Castle in Dirmstein, the Villa Ludwigshöhe castle near Edenkoben, the Limburg monastery ruins near Bad Dürkheim, and the Hambacher Castle. In addition, there are the Imsweiler Mühle and, just outside the Palatinate, the Anhäusermühle in Monsheim.
Every place has its own peculiarities. The village mill is romantic and intimate. The Sturmfeder Castle has little natural light inside, which requires an indoor photographer. The Villa Ludwigshöhe is very popular in the summer; on weekdays it is more relaxed. At the monastery ruins, the acoustics are important; at the Hambacher Castle it is windy and cooler than in the valley. At rural wedding venues like the Anhäusermühle, you should arrange for shuttles, parking, and taxis well in advance. In all seven of these posts we provide information about: most beautiful marriage registration offices on the Weinstraße before.
Can you get married in a vineyard in a civil ceremony?
It depends on the municipality and district. Some civil registries cooperate with wineries, castles or castle ruins, while others only perform civil ceremonies at the town hall. At Schloss Janson, civil registry weddings are not possible because the district does not allow them at privately run locations.
For our couples, this is not a barrier. The civil ceremony takes place at one of the wedding locations in the area, the free ceremony directly at our vineyard and the church ceremony in the nearby Martinskirche. If you are looking elsewhere, please check with the relevant civil registry office early on. Some municipalities only allow couples who live locally to get married at their external offices. You should also coordinate your wishes in advance, such as your own music, decorations or a short speech, because not every municipality allows this.
When do you have to register the civil marriage?
The civil marriage can be registered at least six months before the desired date. At popular marriage offices in the Palatinate, it is worth doing so directly on the first possible day. Some offices also keep waiting lists.
Those who are flexible and register early have the best chance of getting the desired date. At the same time, clarify what design options are possible and whether a residency requirement applies to the desired wedding venue. The competent authority is always the registry office to which the wedding venue belongs; at the Imsweiler Mühle, for example, the registry office in Rockenhausen is responsible. Also keep in mind the time after the wedding. For name changes and tax brackets, you need the marriage certificate, so it is best to order several certified copies directly.
Is it possible to get married in the Pfalz on Saturdays?
Only rarely. Many civil registries in the Palatinate only accept appointments during the week; a few offer Saturday appointments, usually only once a month and with limited places. Smaller registries are often more flexible.
If Saturday is important to you, ask about the appointments early and register on the first available day. Many couples handle it differently and separate the two events. They get married on Friday in a small circle at the registry office, then head to the vineyard afterwards and celebrate the civil or church wedding with all the guests on Saturday. The tight Saturday schedule at the registry office then no longer determines the entire schedule.

How to combine civil registration and a free wedding ceremony?
The most popular combination: civil wedding ceremony on Friday near by, followed by a reception at the vineyard, and on Saturday the free wedding ceremony with all the guests. This way, each part gets its own framework.
According to the registry office, an event can be held in the castle garden or in the courtyard; in the evening, a meal can be enjoyed in a restaurant in the area or a barbecue party can be held in the garden of the guest house. Your guests will get to know each other better during this time, and the Saturday itself will be more harmonious. On the wedding day itself, the routes are short; after the civil ceremony in the castle courtyard, you can go directly to the reception without driving. If you only want to celebrate for one day, that is also fine. A whole weekend is not necessary.
Where in the Palatinate can you celebrate a free wedding in the open air?
At Schloss Janson in Bockenheim on the Weinstraße, there are four places for a civil wedding: the castle courtyard, the square under the old chestnut tree, the wine cellar, and the vineyard. All four look without much decoration.
The Schlosswiese is the most popular venue. It is located slightly elevated, overlooking the castle and the vineyards, ancient trees provide shade, and it is suitable for large gatherings as well as intimate ceremonies. The chestnut tree at the edge of the meadow, surrounded by the old castle wall, suits small to medium-sized groups and provides dense shade on hot days. The wine cellar with high ceilings and natural stone walls is more than just a solution for bad weather; many couples choose it deliberately. We show all of these places in the article about free weddings at the winery.
Can you get married right in the vineyard?
Yes, a wedding ceremony in the vineyard is possible, but it is only suitable for small groups. The path is steep and unpaved and slippery in wet conditions. Therefore, the vineyard is not suitable for older or mobility-impaired guests.
In return, you get a wide view of the vines and the landscape and a very personal, somewhat wilder atmosphere. Wear sturdy footwear or lay out wooden planks and, as with any outdoor wedding, decide early on an alternative in case of bad weather. If your party is larger, there is a good middle ground. You get married in the castle courtyard and later go in as a couple with the photographer to the vineyard for quiet couple photos among the vines.
What happens if it rains during the outdoor wedding ceremony?
Then the wedding ceremony takes place indoors. It is important that the indoor alternative is decided upon from the outset; for example, the Kelterhaus at Schloss Janson. A relocation is also possible on short notice if the venue is suitable.
Plan for the weather from the start, rather than treating it as an emergency. When visiting, consider both variants in detail and ask how quickly they can be adapted. Nice umbrellas are often enough for light showers; they are also a great photo accessory. Even when it rains, the couple photos don’t have to be ruined; at our venue, photographers retreat to the historic wine cellar instead. The important thing is that you both like the indoor version just as much as the outdoor one.
How does a wedding day at a winery go?
A typical wedding day at Schloss Janson begins with breakfast and getting ready; in the late morning, there is a first look or couple photoshoot; in the afternoon, the wedding ceremony takes place; after that, there is a reception, a cellar tour, dinner, the first dance, and a party until around 3 a.m.
Starting around 9 a.m., our team will be working on setting up the decorations; a florist or family and friends will be responsible for the decoration. The bride will prepare in the bridal room at the winery, and the groom in the guest house. After the wedding ceremony on the castle courtyard, there will be sparkling wine, wine, and finger food; then a cellar tour with a flying wine tasting as a shared experience. The dinner will be served as a long table outdoors or in the Knights' Hall. The most important principle is to not be too formal, because the transitions between the program points create the atmosphere.
What is a wedding weekend and who is it worth it for?
A wedding weekend splits the celebration into three days: a get-together on Friday, the wedding on Saturday, and a relaxed conclusion on Sunday. It’s worth considering for couples with many guests. As a total budget, you should expect between 40,000 and 50,000 euros.
Your guests will get to know each other on Friday already, no one has to drive home at night, and on Sunday there is brunch at the guesthouse, often with leftovers from the catering. If you like, you can take a hike from the castle, a carriage ride, or a wine tasting. The guesthouse costs about 1,350 euros for two nights and accommodates up to 15 people. If the program doesn't get overloaded and you send out a schedule in advance, a weekend is particularly useful in winter when the days are short. More about this in the article on Wedding weekend in the Palatinate.
Which wines go well with a wedding?
For a wedding, 6 to 10 different wines are enough. For the reception, a semi-dry white Burgundy or a Blanc de Noir is suitable; for dinner, a Chardonnay aged in barrique and a soft Merlot or Late Harvest Merlot. A rosé is especially a safe choice in summer.
More choice makes things confusing and makes it difficult to coordinate with the kitchen and service. Follow the flow of events: reception, dinner, dessert, and later in the evening. Most guests will enjoy white wines with light acidity and little tannin; red wines should not be too heavy. Your favorite wine is also on the menu; mention it briefly in the greeting or on the menu card. You don’t need to know much about wine. Just tell us your taste and preferences; we’ll put together the selection, if you’d like, during a tasting at the venue. More about this in the post Wine selection for the wedding.
How can wine be incorporated into the wedding?
The simplest way is through shared experiences: a cellar tour with Flying Wine Tasting between the wedding ceremony and dinner, or a wine tasting the day before. A wine ceremony during the wedding ceremony and bottles with their own label as a guest gift or table card are also popular.
Wine is not a backdrop in a winery. Tell your guests why you chose a particular wine, or let the winery explain what is in the glass. A short tour of the cellar before dinner doesn’t cost an extra budget and gives the celebration its own identity. Depending on the season, there are specialities such as new sparkling wines in autumn and freshly bottled vintage wines in spring. These moments often stay longer in the memory of guests than the menu or decorations.
Menu, buffet or live cooking: Which catering option is suitable for a wedding at the winery?
Many things work well in a winery: a set menu, a buffet, a flying buffet, live cooking, a grill buffet or food trucks. The trend is towards a smaller, more refined selection of regional specialties instead of a one-size-fits-all buffet. Vegetarian, vegan and allergen-free dishes are usually available.
Authentic regional cuisine fits the character of a wine estate; for example, a plate of Pfälzer cheese, seasonal vegetables, or desserts made with ingredients from the region. The dinner takes place in our open-air long table or the Knights' Hall, accompanied by matching wines. Please note that the choice between a menu, a buffet, and live cooking significantly changes the budget. If children are joining in, involve the caterer early. Mildly seasoned, simple dishes and earlier service for the little ones help everyone at the table.
What decorations are suitable for a wedding at the winery?
A vineyard doesn’t need a lot of decoration because the architecture and the landscape already provide plenty of inspiration. Greenery with olive branches and eucalyptus pairs well with Boho, vintage with old wine barrels and candle lanterns, or a classic and elegant style. The decor should complement the setting, not overwhelm it.
The seasons help with the colors. In spring, delicate yellow, pink, white, and fresh green with tulips, ranunculus, and fuchsia are appropriate. In autumn, burgundy, rust, copper, and gold work well with dahlias, chrysanthemums, grape branches, and vines. In an elegant castle, it’s not allowed to go too rustic; gold candle holders and restrained arrangements are more appropriate than rough linen. Don’t underestimate the light. String lights in the courtyard, lanterns between the vines, and spotlights on old walls bring the architecture to life, and in winter, good lighting replaces much of the classic decor.

Making wedding decorations yourself or having them made?
DIY decorations take more time, nerves, and often more money than expected. Professionals handle design, delivery, setup, and disassembly, and many things can be rented. There are two ways to decorate for a wedding: consciously reducing costs or budgeting for professionals.
DIY usually starts with the idea of creating something and then grows: tinkering, buying, storing, transporting, assembling, and dismantling the next day. In the worst case, couples, families, and friends are exhausted before the celebration begins. It becomes more difficult when maximum perfection, minimal budget, and complete self-reliance are supposed to come together. In a place with a lot of character, reduced decor looks particularly high-quality anyway. Your guests will remember the atmosphere, the food, the conversations, and the dance floor, not the individual vases.
What is a La-Dolce-Vita wedding?
La Dolce Vita literally means sweet life. In a wedding context, the term stands for a lifestyle characterized by enjoyment, good food, good wine, and lightness. It is often reduced to an aesthetic with lemon, summery colors, and long tables, but it is more than just a decorative style.
For us, that includes good company, excellent food, warm hospitality, and moments that are experienced rather than planned. The trend becomes problematic when it comes to just the appearance. A wedding is not a photo shoot, because weather, wind, light, and emotions cannot be controlled. True luxury means that everything is organized in the background so that you don't even notice it. The final standard is this: We really enjoyed our day. More about this in the post to La Dolce Vita Wedding.
How do wedding guests travel to the Palatinate and do they need a shuttle?
The Pfalz is easily accessible from the Rhine-Main area, southern Germany and France; getting there from Mannheim, Karlsruhe or Frankfurt is straightforward. A shuttle is worth considering for larger groups and at rural registry offices.
Even without a car, getting here is possible; regional rail lines and buses run along the wine route. Parking is available directly at the winery or within walking distance; a taxi service can be arranged for the evening. The invitation includes detailed directions with a Navi address and information on how to get there. For guests from abroad, information on airports, rail connections, and rental cars is provided. Be sure to bring your shoes because gravel, grass, and vineyards do not tolerate thin heels.
Where can wedding guests stay in the Palatinate?
The couple and their closest guests spend the night at Schloss Janson in the 5-star guest house on the grounds, which can accommodate up to 15 people. All others can find family-run pensions, hotels, and holiday apartments in the surrounding area in several price categories.
The guest house has around 200 square meters, five individually furnished bedrooms with private bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, an honesty bar and a private garden with a grill and fire pit. For the remaining guests, you should reserve room reservations early, as accommodations on the Wine Road are quickly booked out. Some houses work with us and offer packages for wedding guests. It is best to mention accommodations and travel routes in the Save-the-Date letter, so everyone can book in time.
Should children be invited to the wedding?
Both decisions are legitimate. A wedding without children is calmer and more predictable, but should be announced early and with respect. With children, it only works if they do it out of conviction and the children get their own place in the celebration.
When attending a celebration without children, keep in mind that some parents may feel excluded or unable to arrange childcare. If children want to participate, they must not simply join in the festivities. Prior to the event, clarify how many children will be attending, their ages, and what they need. Sarah Janson knows this from her own experience as a mother of three: A wedding with raw oysters for the reception, a venue right on the water and no seats for children makes the day exhausting for parents, no matter how beautiful it is for everyone else.
How do you keep children occupied at a wedding?
Children need space to run at a wedding, a play area within sight of the parents, and a quiet area for the evening. Outside, games such as catch the ball, giant jenga and soap bubbles work well; indoors, coloring books, stickers, Duplo and puzzles are great. For several families, childcare is worth considering.
The children's area is located right next to the parents' area at the dinner, not in a separate room. For tired children, they need a quiet zone away from the noise, such as with beanbags or mattresses in a darkened room with baby monitor reception. Clear the seating area for each child in advance and pass it on to the venue. A separate children's table doesn't become available until around four to five years of age. The food should be mild and simple and served earlier. Small tasks such as scattering flowers or handing out rings engage children. More about this in the article Weddings with children.
Where can you propose marriage in the Palatinate?
Beautiful places for a marriage proposal in the Palatinate are quiet places in the vineyards rather than over-crowded viewpoints: a walk through the vineyards, a hill with a view of the Rhine plain, or a wine-growing estate. The over 100-year-old vineyard pavilion at Schloss Janson is ideal.
The pavilion is slightly elevated on the edge of the property and can be reached via a short walk through the vines. It is simple, covered and open to the landscape, with a view over the rows of vines to the horizon. It is especially beautiful in the early evening. For the proposal itself, six points are helpful: a time of quiet, a place to feel comfortable, the decision to accept or reject a ring, a plan B for weather and breakdowns, the question of photos and an idea for the after-event. What can you do at a bachelor party in the Palatinate?
Popular activities at the bachelor party in the Pfalz include wine tasting, a cellar tour, and a wine walk along the German Wine Route. In addition, there are carriage rides, yoga, and workshops on floral decoration and pottery. Those who want to stay overnight can book the guest house at Schloss Janson for up to 15 people.
Plan less program than you think. A wine walk takes much longer in practice than the actual walking time, and the hours after dinner often remain the most memorable. In the evening, Worms and Grünstadt offer bars, cafés, and restaurants. Set the date, group size, and budget several months in advance so everyone can arrange vacation, arrival, and childcare. When it comes to games, it’s important that the bride or groom feel comfortable. Quizzes, JGA bingo, or photo challenges can easily be incorporated. All ideas are included in the article. How many guests can celebrate at Schloss Janson?
At Schloss Janson, up to about 100 guests celebrate indoors, while the outdoor area can accommodate up to about 150. For a free wedding ceremony in the wine cellar, about 70 people are ideal. For more than 80 guests, the Martinskirche church next door offers the perfect setting for the ceremony.
The numbers depend on the season and format. In summer, the party is spread out over the Schlossgarten, the inner courtyard, and the panoramic terrace. In winter, everyone really sits inside, which is why it gets cramped in the wine cellar for 95 people for a wedding. The Martinskirche is heated and offers more space, giving the day a clear structure with the ceremony there and the celebration at our venue. Winter weddings with small to medium-sized groups are most harmonious. The guest house on the grounds can accommodate up to 15 people.
